![]() This one is easily their most sarcastic track in a catalogue already full of cynicism. The explosive riff is certainly a product of its time, but the chorus remains as cheeky and catchy as it was upon release. The opening line “You gotta keep them separated” serves as a welcoming stepping stone into a bouncy musical jaunt infused with a twisting guitar riff, creating a most exotic atmosphere.Ī staple of punk rock playlists everywhere, ‘Want You Bad’ has aged remarkably well since its release in 2000. The power chords merge effortlessly with sober subject matter proved that The Offspring could blend their energetic punk musical style with bleak lyrics, “Heaven’s so far away and it stings/Yeah it stings now/The world is so cold/Now that you’ve gone away”.Īnother from 1994’s ‘Smash’, ‘Come Out And Play’ is as the title suggests – extremely playful. ‘Gone Away’ showcases Holland’s somber side in this ode to his partner, who passed in a car accident. It clocks in seven seconds shy of the two minute-mark, but the lyrics succinctly make their point in spite of the brief running time, “Leave me alone/I’m not asking a lot/I just don’t want to be controlled/That’s all I want”. The track appeared on 1997 album ‘Ixnay On The Hombre’ and is The Offspring at their most urgent. We’ve picked out their best 10 songs so dig out your Vans, spike up your hair and enjoy a pop-punk trip down memory lane. He was sued for failing to make payments on his private plane and reported to owe nearly half a million to the plane’s manufacturer, Cessena, so it’s fair to assume that this new deal will have sorted him right out. It’s been well documented that lead singer Dexter Holland is in a bit of a sticky spot with money. According to frontman Dexter Holland, "Kill The President" was removed to prevent legal pressure falling upon the band and Nitro. It’s easy to be cynical when hearing the news that The Offspring had sold the rights to a large portion of their discography for a whopping $35 million (£24 million), to New York-based music rights company, Round Hill. The the last track, "Kill The President", is absent from this reissue (it features just the first ten tracks). It has the same cover as the 1995 reissue and was released as catalog number #15803 instead of #86460. Nitro reissued the album on CD once again in 2001. This reissue has been out of print for years. It also had a different catalog number (#86460). This reissue features a different artwork instead of the original somewhat controversial "Guitar Alien" front cover artwork, designed by the late Marc Rude. Nitro/ Epitaph reissued the album on CD (and again on vinyl and cassette) in 1995 after The Offspring gained fame with their third album " Smash", which was released the year before. The tracks were added to the album, so that it would not just be a 20+ minute mini-album. The band also re-recorded the tracks "Blackball" and "I'll Be Waiting", which were originally released on a 7" double A-side vinyl record which was distributed by the band itself under the fictitious Black Label Records. ![]() ![]() The vinyl is now the most expensive piece of The Offspring's work as it is also the one of the rarest as it is no longer kept in stock by most media retailers. Compact cassettes were also released, but they are rare. Some copies also have the Cargo logo next to the Nemesis logo on the back cover. One of the copies was destroyed by Wally George at his show the Wally George Show in 1989, thus leaving only 4,999 copies available. Originally released on Jon Nemesis (#NEM-006), only 5,000 copies of the vinyl were made at the time and it took the band two and a half years to sell them all. This was The Offspring's first full-length studio album.
